Navy League Annual Parade 20 Jun 2026

The Sir. John  Hamilton Navy League Annual Parade was held on Sat 20 Jun 2026.  Great turn out from CAVUNP.  Thanks to all who attended.

Each recipient spoke to the importance of the donation and what it means to their organization and their ability to continue with their important work in support of Veterans and their families.

Ella Ng – The refuse bins in Peacekeepers Park, AD Ross Park and Buffalo Park and all other Memorial parks in Calgary are wrapped with the award winning art of Ella, her sister Chloe and Eugena Lee.

Ella responded to the challenge of doing art for the bins in Buffalo Park (to replace the existing wrap which will be moved to other military oriented parks in Calgary). Ella undertook the subject of the Buffalo 9 as her school project for her year. She did a tremendous amount of research and tonight Ella has brought the culmination of her research and artistic talent. We are very proud of this wonderful art.

2 members of the Calgary Chapter were officially presented with the Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers. Congratulations for all that they do and continue to do for both the military and civilian communities.

Well done to – Al Polowick and Don Cameron

Jim Perry was remembered by the Province of Alberta for his 40 years of dedicated service to the Province of Alberta.

Happy 80th Birthday to our President. Those present sang Happy Birthday and enjoyed birthday cake with the coffee.

Ella chose to honour the fallen of the "Buffalo Nine"

Good morning   (May 2026)

As you are all aware the bins in all 3 parks in Garrison Green have been wrapped with art work from 3 talented young ladies.  These art pieces were entered into and winners of the annual Poppy and Literary Contest. Rick and I have gotten to know these young ladies well over the past few years and are so proud of how far they have come.  I first noticed their talent when they were in Montessori school and 2 of them are now in Grade 10. 

Ella and Chloe invited Rick and I to their school's IB presentation (Strathcona Tweedsmuir) of the individual projects which we attended yesterday.

Ella chose to Honour the Fallen of the "Buffalo Nine" with her art and research. She and Rick spent time in his office with all the information that he has as well as his personal connection with the Buffalo Nine. Ella went further and has produced an amazing piece of art.  We have contacted the City and hope to have the bins in Buffalo park replaced with this piece of art.

I cannot tell you how proud we are to have these girls and their family as part of our "family".

INTRODUCTION OF GUEST, AND PRESENTATIONS - May 20, 2026

-        Al Polowick was thanked for his many years of service as the QM for the Calgary Chapter in addition to his continued support in many other areas.

-        Bruce Callow and his father George were welcomed to the meeting. Bruce is a veteran Army militia member now living in Costa Rica & Calgary. He is the creator of the movie/music of “Phoenix” based on the PTSD that many military members suffer from following experiences such as Peacekeeping and ops such as “Operation Harmony”. He discussed the making of the film with his son and was open to comments/questions from those attending. He was very appreciative hearing from those present who had watched the film (email sent in April to chapter members).

Thanks Linda, Bob and Don for attending this Annual Inspection.  Those kids are making excellent progress on their drill.
